When I picture Merrick’s life and all the struggles he had to face I only imagine him listening to incredibly depressing songs. In the beginning of his life when all he knew was being in a freak show, with everyone staring at him and constantly making him feel like a complete outcast when he couldn’t even be stand to seen by his family was the last thing he needed. During this period of his life I would have to say that the song he would probably be listening to would be Color Blind by Counting Crows… “I am colorblind, coffee black and egg white. Pull me out from inside. I am ready, I am ready..I am taffy stuck and tongue tied, stutter shook and up tight. Pull me out from inside. I am ready, I am ready, I am fine. I am covered in skin; no one gets to come in.”

When Merrick is stuck between his thoughts between what a home is and all the different people not being able to look him in his own home I would imagine him listening to Imogen Heap “Hide and Seek”. “What did you say? That you only meant well? Well of course you did. What did you say? That it’s all for the best? Of course it is. What did you say? That this is just what we need? Well you decided this.. Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth. Mid sweet talk, news paper cut outs. Speak no feeling no I don’t believe you. You don’t care a bit..” I feel like these lyrics are perfect for what he could be going through, with all the people believing they know what is best for him.
